4/10: Friday night baby! 40 mins of trading, plus 1.1 points in the bank

Updated: Oct 8, 2024

A decent day in the markets. I was only trading for about 40 mins total and finished 1.1 pts up.

The key trade I wanted to bring you attention to is the one below:

Stake amount: £2.5

Profit: £6.17

ROI: 140%

Key takeaway: Late goals are gold, if you can find them

Obviously these don't come in all the time but I am really getting sold on the idea of delaying my entry till after the 70th minute. I normally enter around the 55th minute but getting this sort of ROI is near on impossible without getting 2 quick goals in succession.

The downside of course is the strike rate would fall to about 49 - 55% . My picks and criteria are looking positive though so it will be interesting to see where we are 100 trades from now. Just a reminder, I treat a "trade" as a football game not as a market, given I tend to enter 2 goal markets per trade, depending on the timing of the goal.

Key Question: Should one trade all their qualifying picks of the day?

So there is this debate on many forums around when is good to stop for the day. Should one set targets or just trade all their qualifiers? Comments welcome on this one

For example today, I was comfortably in profit after 40 mins and stopped for the day. In fact I cashed out for a small loss on one of my other active trades, Hillerod Fodbold v Vendsyssel FF, which went on to get a late goal and would have given me another 0.25 pts profit.

Furthermore, pretty much all my other picks have perfectly timed goals which would have translated into another 1 point of profit, bringing me to almost 2.5 to 3 points for the day

There is a big BUT! There are other days when continuing to trade would definitely wipe out any gains made. Imagine the psychological impact if you are up 2 points for the day and then finish the day -2.5 points?

For me personally, if I have a good profit for the day, even if it is after 5 minutes, I will leave it there for day for the purposes of this experiment. At the end of the day, the whole point of trading and is to make money not to spend the day looking at the screen!

Current status as at today 4/10/2024:

No. of matches traded: 13

Net position: +2.1 points

Note: As always, ignore the tiny 10P stakes on the P&L - this is me trialling automated strategies in the background, and also collecting data
