79 Losing Bets in a Row — And the Strategy Was Still Profitable

Seventy-nine.

That is the longest run of consecutive losing bets recorded by Dog Pound so far.

At the August 2026 V1 checkpoint, the same strategy had completed 2,100 actual live bets and was +466.54 units ahead after commission.

Those two numbers belong together.

+466.54 units. And 79 consecutive losers.

The first is the number people selling betting systems like to show you. The second is the number that tests whether you'll actually survive long enough to experience the first.

I've been involved in sports trading for more than a decade. Years ago, a long losing run would have had me questioning everything. Change a setting. Add a filter. Increase the stakes. Find another strategy. I've done versions of all of it.

What changed wasn't that I suddenly became fearless. I started collecting enough data to give the losses some context.

Dog Pound itself came from a much larger experiment involving 49,172 actual tiny-stake bets placed into the live Betfair market. That research lost around 1,350 units, but analysing and refining it eventually produced Dog Pound.

So when 79 consecutive losers arrived, I didn't know that a winner was around the corner. I still don't know how bad the next losing run might be.

But I had evidence.

And that is very different from hope.

At one-unit stakes, 79 losers would consume 79% of a 100-unit bank, but only 7.9% of a 1,000-unit research bank. Same losing run. Completely different ability to survive it and keep learning.

That's one of the biggest lessons the data has taught me.

The purpose of collecting data isn't to keep proving yourself right. It's to give the evidence enough time to tell you you're wrong.

That, for me, is trading carefully.

Sports trading involves financial risk. Historical performance does not guarantee future results.

This is much closer to the format I'd use for all 20. Short story, real number, personal experience, one strong idea, link. No unnecessary headings every three bloody sentences
