August 2026 Dog Pound Results: 2,150 Bets and +472 Units

A quick data note: You may have seen a figure of +466.54 units mentioned in an earlier Trade Carefully update. While reconciling the complete dataset for this report, we identified a small discrepancy in the previous reporting. The figures have now been checked against the underlying data, with +472.14 units after 2% commission the corrected total as at 31 August 2026. As always, we'd rather correct the record than quietly leave an inaccurate number sitting there.

August was spectacularly unspectacular.

After making +41.83 units in July, Dog Pound finished August at −0.49 units. Almost nothing happened. And, actually, that's quite a useful result.

The complete record now stands at 2,150 documented bets and +472.14 units after 2% commission, with an ROI of around 22%. The longest losing run remains 79 bets.

The temptation in sports trading is to give every short period too much meaning. A good month feels like confirmation. A bad month feels like something needs fixing. August is a nice reminder that sometimes the right response is simply to collect more data.

Cycle 8 has also begun, returning +5.67 units from its first 50 bets. That's interesting, but 50 bets tells us very little in a high-variance strategy. So we'll keep watching rather than declaring anything.

That approach is really the story behind Trade Carefully. Dog Pound emerged from a much broader research project containing 49,172 UK greyhound market observations. Applied broadly, that original research lost around 1,350 units. Analysis, segmentation and refinement eventually produced the much narrower Dog Pound implementation.
